The Biden admin gives open-source AI a win
The debate between closed-source and open-source AI development is one of the most interesting in technology today. Proponents of closed-source AI models contend that it’s important to keep their guts private so as to fend off rival international powers who want to surpass domestic technological prowess. Advocates of open-source AI argue that the models will leak anyway, so a more transparent approach will allow the state of the art to move ahead more quickly and ensure robust competition.
